The Motown label was founded by Berry Gordy in 1959 in Detroit and signed many, many names that went on to find fame and fortune. We take a look at some of the best Motown artists and marvel in the success of the Motown label!
The Four Tops joined the Motown label in the late 1950s. Initially they filled their time by singing backup on Motown singles and they also back backing vocals – most famously for Martha and the Vandellas on the 1966 hit ‘My Baby Loves Me’. In 1965, they achieved their first number one hit single with ‘I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch) and went on the record many successful singles.
