Two of Motown ’s legendary groups have performed at the White House recently.

Members of The Temptations and The Four Tops dropped by to see the president briefly while on a White House holiday tour.

The White House also released video of the men surprising fellow visitors to the White House with some impromptu singing in the East Room.

President Obama joked last week that he nominated Ashton Carter as defense secretary in part because he's such a big Motown fan, with the Four Tops ' hit "Reach Out, I'll Be There" being one of his favourites.

The two iconic groups start a seven-concert series December 29 at the Palace Theatre New York.
