Win an amazing overnight stay and show with Smooth Radio

We're giving you something to look forward to - each week we'll be offering you a different relaxing and refreshing Smooth Escape.

This week you can experience the amazing Kynren, an outdoor performance that has wowed thousands of people in the north east, with overnight stay at The Manor House in West Auckland, plus we'll get you there and back stress free on a train too.

About Kynren

‘Kynren – an epic tale of England’ is a spectacular live action show which begins at sunset and ends in starlight and is set against the magnificent backdrop of Auckland Castle in Bishop Auckland, County Durham.

In 2016, over 100,000 ticketholders experienced the first season of the 90-minute show, which involves over 1,000 professionally-trained volunteers as cast and crew and takes each 8,000-strong audience on a visually stunning journey through 2,000 years of British history, myth and legend.

Crammed with special effects that bring the show’s scenes to life with thrilling visual impact, audiences will be transported from Roman times through to the Second World War, encountering Viking and Norman invasions, medieval feasts to the splendour of the Tudors, the Industrial Revolution and the Roaring Twenties along the way.

New for 2017

The 2017 show is under the new creative leadership of director Steve Boyd. A veteran mass choreographer for multiple Olympic and Commonwealth Games ceremonies (London 2012, Glasgow 2014, Rio 2016), Boyd is hard at work on plans to build on the success of Season One and make every aspect of the show ‘Bigger, Better and Brighter’, building on last year’s show with some new surprises weaved into the storyline, staging and choreography.

In 2017, there will be a much larger cast and crew to add to the visual splendour and scale. This season will involve almost 1,500 volunteers who will be joined on stage by a supporting cast of performance horses, sheep, goats, cattle and geese, plus life size replicas of Norman longboats, steam trains, wagons and carriages. The volunteers are professionally trained by top performance experts in dance, theatrical combat, guest management, pyrotechnics, and cavalry to create a world-class show.
