Before This World is set to be Taylor's most successful album since 1971, with a guest slot from Sting.
James Taylor, the legendary You've Got A Friend singer, is currently at No 3 in the mid-week album charts.
Top 5 success this weekend will mean that Before This World is the star's best-performing record for 44 years, since Mudslide Slim and the Blue Horizon reached No 4.
Taylor said: "I am delighted with the album's success in the UK. Great Britain has always felt like my second home. It is where Paul McCartney signed me to my first record deal at Apple Records in 1968."
Special guest Sting also features on the album's lead single Before This World. Taylor and Sting are pictured above performing together at the 25th Rainforest Anniversary Fund in 2014.
