Barbra Streisand and Billy Joel talk about their collaboration, ‘New York State of Mind’. Watch the video now.

Billy Joel has never released ‘New York State of Mind’ as a single, but it’s become one of his most enduring songs. The ‘Piano Man’ and Barbra Streisand have recorded the song on her new album, Partners.

Streisand originally did a cover of the song for her 1977 album Superman and in the video above, Joel credits this as an important moment in his career: “She really put me on the map as a songwriter. I was always very appreciative of that.”

These days, Billy Joel is a celebrated artist who has sold over 100 million albums worldwide. But in June of 1977 when Superman was released, Joel’s career had not yet taken off.

Billy Joel is just one of the collaborators on Barbra Streisand’s Partners album; others include Stevie Wonder, Michael Buble and Lionel Richie.

Partners is due out September 16 2014.
