Penny first met Rod when she was 27 years old; meanwhile Rod was 53, two-times divorced, and already the father of six children.
And while none of this was a turn-off for the student photographer, there was one matter which could have put an early end to what would be a long-lasting love.
When the rockstar first started dating Penny, he was not immediately enthusiastic about the idea of having more children.
And for Penny – who was set on having her own children – this was a relationship dealbreaker.

In her interview with Saga, Penny revealed she thinks she would have left Rod had he not changed his mind about having more kids.
“And that would have been very hard,” she said, recalling how she’d fallen for the singer, despite the fact his world originally left her wondering: “‘What the hell am I getting myself into.’”
Thankfully for the pair, Rod was brought around to the idea of trying for more children and the pair eventually welcomed two sons – Alastair and Aiden, in 2005 and 2011 respectively.
“Now Rod always says: 'I wish I’d said yes earlier, because then we could have had more children,’” Penny revealed.
The couple so enjoyed bringing up their sons: “Even five years ago we were talking about adopting, but it ended up not happening,” she added, explaining: “We thought there might be too much of an age gap.”
Although the pair wonder what could have been if they'd more children, Penny is also happy with her ‘three’ kids.
“I have three because there’s another big baby who needs my attention in a different way,” she joked.
“I think all women would say that about their husbands.”
