If U Care Share (IUCSF) has three aims: suicide prevention, intervention and support for those affected by suicide.
Suicide is the biggest killer of men aged 49 and under in the UK, and the biggest killer of women up to the age of 35. The North East has one of the highest suicide rates in the country.
If U Care Share provides workshops for young people in the area, focusing on emotional and mental wellbeing; delivers training so that people can intervene should someone they know be feeling suicidal; and provides practical and emotional support for those affected by suicide.
In November 2013, Josh and his family were referred to If U Care Share after his cousin, Dan, took his own life. He said:
“My family and I received support from normal people who have experienced similar traumatic experiences. IUCSF was able to show me more positive ways to handle the situation and let off some steam. I now work full time for If U Care Share Foundation, telling my story to young people in the hope that this never happens to anyone again. It is fantastic to be able to give something back to the organisation that saved my family during the worst time in our lives.”
Global’s Make Some Noise is proud to support If U Care Share’s existing Young People’s Service with a two part strategy to address areas in need of further support and development.
If U Care Share will continue to deliver Emotional and Mental Health (EAMH) workshops in schools, and will offer further support to young people at risk. It is hoped that mental health among young people will improve and families will be able to deal more effectively with the impact of suicide.
