Annie Lennox Admits Music Isn't "Serious Enough" To Her Anymore

Annie Lennox has taken a back seat in the music industry to focus on "issues that affect people at a more serious level"

Annie Lennox has admitted to taking a more relaxed approach to her music career in recent years in favour of focusing on "issues that affect people at a more serious level".

The former Eurythmics front woman said that despite music being a "fantastic thing to do", she feels her career has taken a more meaningful turn.

"The last decade has been more about me as a human rights activist, a spokesperson for women's rights, HIV - issues that affect people at a more serious level. Music is a fantastic thing to do, but it was maybe not serious enough to me. I feel so phony about certain things, and music's a great platform for that - I take other issues seriously," the 59-year-old revealed in a recent interview with Billboard.

She also hit out at today's celebrity culture, saying it makes her feel uncomfortable. 

"It's so diminishing, so invasive and reductive and embarrassing. It makes me cringe. But we're used to it, aren't we? We think it's normal."

Despite Lennox's negative opinions towards show business and her noticeable step back from the industry, the Scottish icon is still recording.
