The Stand By Me singer passed away on Thursday 30th April.

The iconic R&B singer Ben E King has died, it has emerged.

Although largely known for his hit track Stand By Me, King was originally a member of The Drifters, performing on tracks like There Goes My Baby and Save The Last Dance For Me. He went on to have a successfully solo career that spanned many decades.

Fellow R&B artist Gary U.S Bonds took to Facebook to express his condolences. "Speaking for myself, my family & my Roadhouse Rockers family, I can tell you that Ben E. will be missed more than words can say" Bonds said.

King was touring up until 2013 with his band, playing shows around the UK. He was 74 at the time.
