1970s teen idol David Cassidy has been ordered to do 50 hours of community service, after being convicted of driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Last September, the ‘Partridge Family’ star pleaded guilty to a misdemeanour charge after driving his car while intoxicated, in New York.

His sentence also included a fine of $900 (approximately £575).

Cassidy’s sentence also means he can’t drive for six months, and has had an ignition interlock device installed on his vehicle meaning he can’t start his car drunk. He has also waived his right to appeal the sentence.

It’s been an uneasy few years for Cassidy, as he was charged with a DUI back in August 2013 and was arrested on suspicion of DUI a third time in 2014 after he made an illegal right turn against a red light.

Last year, he admitted to television presenter Piers Morgan that he was “most definitely an alcoholic.”

Cassidy signed with Universal Studios in 1969 and in 1970, he took the part of Keith Partridge in The Partridge Family. Cassidy persuaded the makers of the show to allow him to sing and "I Think I Love You" became a hit, allowing Cassidy to pursue his music dreams.
