He was asked to sit in on recordings of 'Love Me Do' and 'P.S I Love You'.

Andy White, who played drums on recordings of 'Love Me Do' and 'P.S I Love You' has died from a stroke at the age of 85.

Originally from Scotland, White was a popular session drummer during the '60s and was asked to sit in on a recording session with the Beatles because producer George Martin was unhappy with Ringo Starr's drumming.

These versions of the songs were released in the U.S. with Ringo playing tambourine on 'Love Me Do' and maracas on 'P.S I Love You', but the UK versions feature Ringo on drums.

According to Rolling Stone, White was paid just £5 for the recordings and received no royalties.

White had a highly successful musical career having also played drums on Lulu's version of 'Shout' and the Tom Jones' song 'It's Not Unusual'. He also toured with artists like Burt Bacharach and Rod Stewart.

He was survived by his wife Thea White in New Jersey.
