Kym Marsh has announced she is taking an indefinite break from Coronation Street.
The actress has played Michelle Connor on the ITV soap for over a decade, and has decided it is time to leave for the time being.
She said: "When I was lucky enough to be offered four episodes I could never in my wildest dreams have thought I'd be here 13 years later.
"It's been an incredibly difficult decision but it feels like the right time for me to explore some other roles.
"But this isn't the last you’ve heard of Michelle Connor – she'll be back! I can't wait to see what the writers have in store for the future."
It's not clear how or when Kym will be written out of Corrie, but she's expected to still be in the soap until later in the year.
Kym Marsh first found fame as a member of Hear'Say in 2000, but went on to join Corrie in 2006.
She was named Best Newcomer at the 2007 British Soap Awards and the 2007 National Television Awards, and received the award for Best Female Dramatic Performance at the 2017 British Soap Awards.
