They were THE must-have toy for kids and 'old kids' in the 1990s, and they're now making a comeback.

The virtual pet simulator gadget was first released back in 1997, and from this week you can buy a new 20th anniversary edition.

In case Tamagotchis passed you by the first time around (or you're just sickeningly young), they are egg-shaped keyrings featuring an LCD image of an a pet, that the user can feed and play with to keep them happy.

You just have to make sure that you keep feeding it food, otherwise you'll turn it back on after a couple of days and find it 'dead'.

Tamagotchis were absolutely massive in the 1990s, selling over 82 million units worldwide.

They come in retro packaging with six different styles, costing just £9.99.

Who needs smartphones and tablets when you've got one of these?
