Former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr, who is set to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 18, admits he was drunk for two decades after the Fab Four broke up.
"I was drunk. Some of those years are absolutely gone," Starr, 74, told The Huffington Post. "I was mad... for 20 years [although] I had breaks in between of not being."
Starr admits McCartney pulled some favours to get him into the Hall of Fame. "They were all surprised that I wasn't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And [Paul] talked to somebody and they're going to put me in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and he's going to give me away like I'm the bride and I will accept… Even though there's very little record industry left, I like to make records because I write."
Starr recently released his 18th album, Postcards from Paradise.
Other artists being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday include the late Lou Reed, who will be inducted by Patti Smith and Bill Withers, who is set to be inducted by Stevie Wonder.
