Paul Weller has released his latest track in tribute to Sir Paul McCartney.

The singer-songwriter has recorded a cover of The Beatles track 'Birthday' to celebrate the legendary musician's 70th birthday today (June 18).

Speaking of the song, Weller said: "Once I saw [The Beatles], I just wanted to do music. They got me picking up a guitar in the first place.

"I first met his royal highness in 1981 or '82, in George Martin's studio. The Jam were recording our last album there, and Macca was recording at the same time.

"I was totally overawed by meeting him, but he was a really nice and sweet geezer. His lovely wife Linda was smashing too."

He added: "My wife got Paul to make me a DVD birthday thing for me which was amazing. So I'm returning a compliment, by doing a version of 'Birthday'. Hopefully he likes it."

The track is available to download via iTunes for one day only.
