Stricly Come Dancing professionals Johannes Radebe and Graziano Di Prima perform first same-sex routine in the shows history
Strictly Come Dancing 2020 is looking to be the most eventful series to date.
Alongside new rules around social distancing, a source close to the BBC series says TV bosses are keen to have their first same-sex couple.
The move comes after Strictly Come Dancing showcased a one-off routine by two professional dancers in last year's series and ITV's Dancing On Ice also paired up pop star Ian "H" Watkins with Olympic Skater Matt Evers in 2019.
Johannes Radebe is rumoured to be the favourite to be paired up with a male celebrity in 2020 after his groundbreaking same-sex performance with Graziano Di Prima.
The source told The Sun: “The plan to introduce a same-sex couple was made after ITV took the plunge.
“Many of Strictly’s stars have called on producers to cast a same-sex couple for the past few years and it’s been decided this will be the year.
“Johannes made history with Graziano in the last series by becoming the first same-sex dancers to perform and he’s made no secret of how keen he’d be to take on the role."
"Strictly is facing so many challenges this series because of coronavirus but behind-the-scenes they’re rising to the challenge and want this year’s show to be better than ever."
