Emeli Sandé has made a welcome return to music in 2019, and will soon release her long-awaited third album 'Real Life'.

Not only that, but she's heading out on a UK tour in late 2019, and Smooth's Paul Phear caught up with the talented singer-songwriter about what she's been up to since her last release. Watch our interview above.

"This is definitely the most authentic musical presentation of myself, I feel, I’ve put out," Emeli told Smooth.

"I’ve tried to be as authentic and honest as possible. I’ve really been on a journey of self-discovery, and I’ve learned so much about myself in the process of making it.

"And I think that’s kind of coming through in the lyrics and the music. So I hope people connect to it on a very real level."

Having contributed the new song 'Extraordinary Being' to the X-Men: Dark Phoenix album recently, Emeli said that she'd love to write more music for films in the near future.

"I’d love to, even if it was just without lyrics. That’s always been a dream of mine, to compose for film. But this was great. It was a nice entry, or at least a look into the movie industry. Everything’s done so grand there."

Emeli Sande is named Sunderland University's new chancellor, and there's a beautiful backstory with her parents

When asked if she would do a Bond theme, she said: "I could definitely give it a go! That would be fun as well, because I just love strings. I think with Bond, you’re kind of given this license to... thrill.

"So it gives you a license to just go really bombastic, and I love doing that with music."

Emeli Sandé releases her new album Real Life on September 13, and heads out on a UK tour this November.
