Michael Bolton has cancelled his upcoming concert “due to illness”, it has been confirmed.

The 66-year-old singer announced on social media to his 101,400 Twitter followers that he has been ordered to “rest and get treatment”.

His show on Friday 16 in Oulu will therefore be cancelled, though rescheduling has not yet been suggested.

Michael posted on Twitter: “My dear fans in Finland, it is with heavy heart that, under Doctor's orders, I will be unable to perform at my show in Oulu on Friday 16th due to illness.

“I struggled through the show in Tampere and have been ordered to rest and get treatment.”

In a second post, Michael wrote: “I look forward to performing again just as soon as I feel better and we are taking all the steps for my safe speedy recovery. Love and miss u all. Mb.”

In a statement released by the show organisers, Michael added: “I deeply apologise for not being able to perform in Oulu on Friday. I want to thank my fans for their support and understanding and apologise for the hassle of cancelling.”

Fans of the star instantly rushed to offer messages of support to the 'How Am I Supposed to Live Without You?' singer, reiterating the doctor’s orders.

One fan wrote: “Your health is nothing to mess around with. Prayers for a speedy recovery. Love and hugs sent your way.”

Another posted: “Michael your health is the most important thing here and we all know that you never like to cancel concerts.

“I am so sorry that you are ill. Take care and concentrate on getting yourself well again. We all love and respect you so much and fully understand.”

A third said: “Dear Michael, I am so sorry that this has happened to you and we all know that you would never intentionally let any of us down. My heart goes out to you.

“Sending you lots of love and best wishes for a speedy recovery. Take care, big hugs to you from the UK!!”

Another simply put: “Get well soon and lots of love.”

Unfortunately, Michael has also had to pull out of his Rewind Festival appearance due to illness.
