He's currently competing for the glitterball trophy, but what about his exotic crime drama?

Danny John-Jules announced his departure from Death in Paradise earlier this year, having been on the show since its creation as police officer Dwayne Myers.

A few months later, the 56-year-old Red Dwarf actor was announced to be part of the Strictly Come Dancing line-up.

Danny told TV Times that he missed the magic of live performance, but he didn't quit the series because of Strictly itself.

"I left Death in Paradise because I wanted to get back on stage," he said. "I needed a bit more razzmatazz in my life, and then along came Strictly!"

On his Strictly experience so far, Danny said: "I haven't done a [stage] show for more than 20 years, so this is as close as I'm going to get to doing the jazz hands again. I've also been working on my one-man show about Sammy Davis Jnr, that's why I'm always wearing a bowler hat!"

But could a Dwayne spinoff be on the cards?

"I have an idea, but I just need to meet up with the producer, Tony Jordan, to touch base and run it past him," he teased.
