The Duchess of Cambridge has been admitted to hospital after going into labour with her third child.
Kate Middleton and Prince William arrived at the Lindo Wing at St Mary's Hospital, Paddington, in central London on Monday morning (April 23).
The Duchess has been on maternity leave since her last royal visit at a charity lunch in London a month ago.
The new baby will be fifth in line to the throne, and the Queen's sixth great-grandchild.
The royal birth will be officially announced with an email to the press, and a celebratory tweet on Kensington Palace's Twitter feed.
There will also be the usual tradition of placing a framed paper announcement on an ornate gold stand, behind the iron railings of Buckingham Palace.
Kate is said to be hoping for a natural birth - like her first two children - and does not know whether she is having a boy or a girl.
Bookies are championing Mary, Alice, Alexandra, Elizabeth and Victoria for a girl's name, and Arthur, Albert, Frederick, James and Philip for a boy.
